IIA Net Visionary Awards 2002 – Winners Announced
Dublin, November 29th, 2002. The Irish Internet Association (IIA), the professional body for those using connected technologies as a critical component of business and social change, today announced the winners of this year`s IIA Net Visionary Awards at a ceremony in the Alexander Hotel attended by government Chief Whip Mary Hanafin TD, the Minister of State responsible for the Information Society. denise cox of E-Search and IrishAnimals.ie won the IIA Net Visionary Award for her outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of the Internet industry in Ireland and beyond.
Other finalists for the prestigious award were Mary Mangan (ireland.com), Sheila McDonald (ENN), Ruairi Roddy (Thomas Crosbie
Media) and Damian Ryan (Perfect World).
denise`s background is in the publicity side of the music business in her native Los Angeles. Early on she saw the publicity power of the Internet and particularly e-mail. She has used this to great effect in both her professional and personal life. denise`s commitment to the Internet attracted her to work for the IIA when it was founded in 1997. She left in 1999 to start her own business, all real good internet, Ireland`s first dedicated e-mail marketing and publishing agency. In 2001 she merged it with E-Search and developed a suite of 20 e-newsletters now boasting over 100,000
readers.
She launched her personal passion, IrishAnimals.ie, in 1996. Today it is the de facto gathering point for a countrywide network of animal welfare people, as well as for visitors seeking to adopt or care for a pet. Thousands of dogs and cats have been re-homed through the site. The network was a key element in getting government support for the launch of an annual Spay Week Ireland.
Commenting on the award, John Pierce, IIA Chairman said; “I`m delighted that this award, which is decided by our members and the general public, should go to denise. She has made, and continues to make, a great contribution to the development of the Internet in Ireland and this has now been recognised by the votes of her peers.”
The IIA also presented awards to the following individuals for their contribution to critical e-business areas to be developed by the Irish economy over the coming years in order to fulfil the association`s goals;
– Adrian Weckler of The Sunday Business Post (IIA Journalist Award, sponsored by Newsweaver).
