Gerry McGovern will deliver one of his first public workshops in Ireland
this year entitled ‘Writing for the Web’ He has achieved international
recognition and has travelled to the US, Asia, Australia and Europe this
year giving workshops and seminars in the subject of online content. The IIA
are delighted that he will be leading a workshop on ‘Writing for the Web’,

Description: This one day Writing for the Web seminar is packed with
practical examples and exercises.
The focus will be on giving you simple but effective techniques that will
significantly improve your web writing abilities. You will be able to use
these techniques the next day at work. The seminar will help you resolve
critical publishing issues that will result in a more professionally
managed, more effective website.
The Writing effectively for the Web seminar is composed of the following

Part 1: Why you are a publisher on the Web: (Why the Web is indeed a
‘publishing’ medium; Why content is critical; Key problems content faces in

Part 2: The reader is king (how readers use the internet; what they are
looking for)
Part 3: Writing for the Web (the ten golden rules of writing for the web)

IIA BOARD ELECTIONS
The recent IIA call for nominations for the upcoming IIA Board Elections which closed on Friday 20th June resulted in six nominations in total.
The IIA board had six places available hence the nominees are automatically elected to the IIA Board without the requirement of a e-ballot.
The new board members will be announced at the IIA Annual General Meeting:

GRIFFITH COLLEGE LEADS WITH LECTURE STREAMING IN IRELAND
3Com Corporation and iCom Technologies are helping Griffith College to lead Irish colleges with their next-generation network which is linking over 5,000 students & corporate customers and 400 staff and lecturers in Ireland. The new 3Com network, installed and supported by iCom Technologies at Griffith College, gives enhanced stability and reliability with increased speed as an added bonus. EIAS LAUNCHES SEARCH ENGINE SERVICES
Ennis Information Age Services (EIAS) has launched a new service that achieves top rankings for Irish web sites in the world’s most popular search engines. These Search Engine Services will help companies boost their return on investment from their web sites through increased targeted website traffic and online sales. “Four out of five Internet users use search engines to find specific company or product information on the Internet,” according to Carmel Moloney (Marketing Consultant, EIAS). “Companies must rank in the first 30 results to be successful or they lose out on visitors and sales to highly visible competitor sites.” www.eias.ie/online_marketing.main

AGM & IIA BOARD NOMINATIONS
There are a number of Board positions to be filled for the board term beginning at the conclusion of the forthcoming AGM to be held 24 July 2003. The number of vacancies available will be confirmed prior to the AGM.
