Consumers can top-up their pre-paid mobile phones or gain international phone time through vending machines located nationwide. O2’s GPRS network enables these machines to be managed wirelessly and electronically. SUN AND HORIZON COMPLETE LARGE IT CONTRACT
Sun Microsystems and partner Horizon Open Systems (HOS) have completed a multi-million euro contract for hardware, software and services with Ingersoll-Rand International in a competitive win against several other significant bidders. This is one of the biggest IT business transactions implemented in Ireland this year. The infrastructure elements of the project were jointly implemented by Sun Microsystems and Horizon Open Systems’ professional services team and is providing a large cluster of Sun enterprise servers to run Ingersoll-Rand’s mission critical business applications on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis. http://sun.com/

KNOWLEDGE INTENSIVE INDUSTRY GROWS STRONGLY IN EU
In 2002 there were 163 million people employed in the EU, of which 7.4% were employed in high tech and medium-high tech manufacturing and 33.3% in knowledge-intensive services (KIS). Employment in KIS is growing strongly in the EU, with an annual average growth rate of 3.1% during the 1997-2002 period. This information comes from a report issued by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, drawn from the latest Community Labour Force Survey (CLFS) data. TickIT gives software developers an accredited 9001 quality system certification scheme that meets the special needs of the industry and the TickIT mark itself enjoys global recognition. NETCETERA JOINS THE LONDON INTERNET EXCHANGE
Netcetera, Internet hosting providers to the SME market, has announced that it is now a full member of The London Internet Exchange (LINX), an alliance of Internet Service Providers enabling the exchange of internet traffic.
