NORTH EAST BROADBAND PROJECT LAUNCHED
The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey T.D., has formally signed the contracts for the construction of six Metropolitan Area broadband Networks (MANs) in Monaghan, Cavan, Drogheda, Dundalk, Carrickmacross and Kingscourt. The local authorities in the three counties, Monaghan, Cavan and Louth have come together in a Strategic Regional Partnership to stimulate e-commerce development in the North East Region, and two towns in each county will benefit from the construction of high-speed fibre optic rings that will enable the delivery of broadband to businesses, homes, schools and hospitals. The total investment in the six towns will be €13.4 million, which is 90% grant aided by the Government and co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund under the NDP 2000-2006. www.dcmnr.ie/display.asp?pg=1782
